Every year, hulls leave the beaches of the Bulukumba phinisi boatyard villages — Tana Beru and Bira — and enter service as charter yachts, liveaboards, and private vessels across Indonesia. This page shows what that output actually looks like: the build classes the yards deliver, named examples now operating in our own group’s fleet, and how to review detailed photo documentation of current and past builds before you commission. We keep this portfolio honest — full build records, yard identities, and progress photography are shared with serious buyers on request rather than dressed up for a website.
What Do the Bulukumba Yards Actually Launch?
Output from this coast falls into three broad classes, each with a different build rhythm and market:
| Class | Hull length | Typical outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal cruiser | 15–20m | Day-charter and small overnight vessels, owner-operated boats |
| Liveaboard | 20–35m | Multi-cabin charter phinisi for Komodo and Raja Ampat itineraries |
| Superyacht-class | 35–60m | Luxury expedition phinisi with full crew, en-suite staterooms, extended range |
All three classes share the same construction DNA: ironwood keel and structural members, bitti planking fastened plank by plank, teak decking on the higher specifications — documented in detail on our timber standards page — followed by modern engine, electrical, and safety fit-out after launch.
Named Examples: Bulukumba Hulls in Service Today
Two vessels operating within the Juara Holding Group ecosystem show the range of what these yards deliver:
- Naturalia — a 33.45m, 161 GT wooden phinisi built in Bulukumba, now running Komodo National Park itineraries from Labuan Bajo with eight en-suite cabins for up to 24 guests. A working example of the 20–35m liveaboard class in continuous commercial service.
- Catnazse — a 34.4m phinisi launched in 2026 from Bulukumba, entering the Komodo charter market with eight air-conditioned cabins across three grades. A current-generation build showing what a new commission delivers today, not a decade ago.
These are not stock photos of other people’s boats; they are hulls from this coast that our own group operates, which means we live with the build quality we manage. Fit-out and finishing of vessels in this class are handled together with our group’s marine division — see Komodo Luxury’s boat construction service for the operational side of taking a hull from launch to charter-ready.
Why We Share the Full Portfolio Privately
Three reasons. First, most owners of completed vessels prefer their boats not be used as public marketing. Second, meaningful due diligence needs build-stage photography — keel, framing, planking, launch — not glamour shots at anchor, and those records are shared in the context of a real specification discussion. Third, the yards’ order books change monthly, so we would rather show you what is on the beach right now than a static gallery. When you enquire, tell us your intended class and we will send relevant build documentation, including hull-in-progress photography from Tana Beru and Bira.
From Portfolio to Your Own Keel
If what you see here matches your plans, the route forward is a specification call, a yard proposal, and staged milestones — laid out on how to commission a custom phinisi. Budget context by hull size is on the price guide, charter-business economics on building for a charter fleet, and if your timeline suits an existing hull better than a new keel, start with refit and restoration.
Can I see a boat like mine before committing?
Usually, yes. Between hulls under construction on the beach and vessels operating from Labuan Bajo, we can normally arrange for you to walk a comparable build stage or a comparable finished vessel — sometimes both — before you sign anything.
Do you publish client names or vessel owners?
No. Vessel examples named here operate within our own group. Client builds are documented privately, and references are arranged with the owner’s consent when a serious buyer asks for them.
How current is the portfolio documentation?
Build photography is collected continuously as part of milestone reporting, so what we share reflects the yards’ current work, typically including hulls on the beach this season. Ask for the current order-book summary when you enquire.
